3.5 stars. After a four-year absence, Emily Winters returns to her hometown of Lancaster Pennsylvania in 1865 after her fathers death, and shes very surprised to find her childhood friend Ross Gallagher alive and well (hed been reported as dead during the war). Even more surprising is that no one, not even her sister, bothered to write and tell her Ross was alive. Emily soon involves herself in trying to revive her fathers failed printing/newspaper operation, setting her at odds with Ross, who works for the #1 newspaper in town, and hes also engaged to the bosss snotty daughter.Thats the basics, and I dont want to reveal more.

Its apparent from the first that Ross and Emily have a Big Secret, but the author takes her time to unravel it all with flashbacks to their childhood and what led up to Emily cutting off contact with Ross and moving away. Theres also a mystery or two to solve as Emily digs into the reasons why her fathers business failed. This was a quick easy read, Emily and Ross were a good solid pair to root for. This was originally published in 1996 under the title Forever and Always, and a huge thumbs up for getting it out on Kindle with no formatting errors or typos (well, there was one typo I spotted, but so minor its not worth a mention).

3.5/5 stars and I will be reading more from this author.
